Bonnefin Gallery - ReDiscovered has available a selection of original Cook Voyages books from the 18th century together with a range of Webber engravings.

The Webber portrait of Arthur Philip to Australia

The paintings was loaned from the London Portrait Gallery to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the birth of Arthur Philip.  It was uncrated live on TV by Lord Wedgwood when it arrived at the State Library of NSW, in the Mitchel Library.  As Australia's most iconic pre-Federation artwork, its arrival in Australia from its home in England created much interest.

When leading expeditionists left England for voyages of discovery or settlement, it was traditional for a large portrait to be commissioned by and for The Crown, with two small portraits for the sitter and the Royal Maritime Museum.  It was not until the large portrait arrived in Australia and was placed next to Philip's small portrait (which resides in the Mitchell) that it was discovered that the small one was signed (or rather, cartouched), by Webber
